Ruth Alcántara

Brotherhood recruiter. Proud of the work, glad you asked, and better at this than you are.

She runs the intake side of a Brotherhood chapter: meals, clinics, the room at the back with the folding chairs. Alcántara is sincere, competent and delighted to explain what the Brotherhood does, at length, with numbers.

Nothing she says is a lie, and every check the crew run on her will come back clean.

What the crew knows#

• The meals are real, the clinic is real, and the people using both are better off.
• She asks about the crew rather than talking about herself, and she remembers the answers.
• She never pushes. She invites, once, and then leaves it entirely alone.
• Everybody she works with is visibly doing better than they were, and the crew will not be able to point at anything wrong.
