Lone Star

A Texas security corporation that sells policing to municipalities. In Seattle they are the police, on a renewable contract, and they are professional and well-equipped and paid to care exactly as much as the contract requires.

In Los Angeles they are a war crime. Sacramento hired them in 2057 as part of the force sent in after the Magestone hack, and what that force did over two days is the reason this city has no government. They have not operated here since, and they cannot.

What the crew knows

• Say the name out loud in the wrong room and the conversation stops. In some districts it does worse than stop.
• Nobody was charged. The corporation lost a contract and moved on.
• In Seattle they work normally, which is its own kind of information: their response times track a district's tax base rather than its crime rate.
• Some of the people who wore that uniform in 2057 are still in the city, under other names, working private security. Everyone knows this. Nobody has a list.
