Delphine Ward
Contingency lawyer for the Belmar claimants, and one of them herself. A client, not a Johnson.
Third-generation Santa Monica, and her grandmother's house was on the flats before the Civic Auditorium was built on top of it. She has been working the restitution claims for eleven years on contingency, out of a two-room office on Pico with a photocopier older than most of the crew.
She is precise, tired, and completely without illusions about what the law can do for her clients, and it is why she is willing to hire people like the crew.
What the crew knows#
- She has no money. She says so in the first meeting, before she says what she wants.
- She knows the coast's title history better than anybody living except Ofelia Márquez, and the two of them are wary of each other in the specific way of professionals who agree.
- She will not ask the crew to do anything she can't defend in a hearing, which is a real constraint and she means it.
- Her clients are three hundred families, and she can name them.
Contact#
| Connection | Attorney, Belmar Association: Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica |
| Reach | Standing. She can make a request legitimate, which nobody else can |
| Loyalty | To the claimants, absolutely and inconveniently |
| Favors | Vinnie, who haggled her hard and then told her exactly what he was doing while he did it, which she has not had from a runner before. Watchful of Trash, because three city inspector uniforms went missing on her job and she has never asked whose they were |
