Ares Macrotechnology

Detroit money, flags on the packaging, and the widest weapons catalogue on the legal market. If you carry a Predator you are carrying Ares. They also build aircraft, cars and satellites, they supply most of what the UCAS army uses, and they own Knight Errant, which sells policing to anyone with a budget.

Of the big eight they're the one that talks to the public the way a country talks to its citizens. It works. People like them.

What the crew knows

• Their gear is everywhere and their serial numbers are traceable. That matters more than the price does.
• Knight Errant doesn't have Seattle — Lone Star does — and they bid on it every time the contract comes up.
• Los Angeles has no citywide contract to win, so Knight Errant sells by the district. They stand behind the money on the Westside and owe nothing at all to the streets in between.
• They hire runners more openly than the Japanese corps do and they pay on time. Neither of those makes them safe to work for.
• Aerospace plants in both cities. The port matters to them.
